The 17’s division, like most others, has only three pools with a total of twelve teams. Many of the teams are household names from Minnesota. MN Northern lights has five teams competing in the 17’s division. Others include MN North and SWMNVB. The first two rounds will be filled with rematches between club rivals. It could be anyone’s day to come out on top. It’s likely that the one wild card, that teams know the least about is the Kusler Klinics 17 Grey.
Who are they: From the north-eastern part of South Dakota, Kusler Klinics Volleyball Club is a very new club that started in 2017. They have already developed a strong program with six talented teams. The 17’s grey team is led by director, Brianna Kusler, who has a passion for coaching and training volleyball and basketball athletes. She also brings along her own experience as excellent basketball player who played with USA team in Brazil.
And the training seems to have paid off. The 17 Grey has had an awesome season including a third place finish in the Pentagon Grand Prix. This is their last event before Nationals.
Team Strengths:
In the middle, Kadye Fernholz is a dynamic 6’1” player for KKVC. Fernholz is also a standout basketball player so the club is a great place for this dual sport athlete. From Miller High school she earned All-state honors as a junior and has already reached over 1,000 kills. Their second middle, Ady Dwight is equally talented with blocking skills.
Brooke Kusler leads the team on the outside. She is young player from Aberdeen Central (grad. 2021.) Kussler is a efficient player with strong high school stats and a natural ability to get kills. Slightly smaller is outside, VonnaGail Schletcher. Also from Miller HS, she brings team chemistry with Fernholz. Schletcher is a well rounded player in great physical condition who probably could play any position if needed.
KKVC 17 Grey will bring their powerful offense, disciplined defense and the element of surprise to the cities this weekend. We can’t wait to see how it goes down!
