Great athletes have been turning up and not just at the Northern Lights Qualifier, but across the region in top tournaments. Here are some rising stars of the North.
Ashlynn Olson – Kandi Elite 17-1 – New London-Spicer – Class of 2021
The right side for Kandi Elite has been playing up a level along with most of her teammates. A left handed swing that is tough to defend, Olson can also put up a strong block and is going to be a great X factor for a team to score some points at the next level.
Kiya Durant – Crossfire 16-1 – Robbinsdale Armstrong – Class of 2021
Durant is a dominant force in the middle. With the ability to block from pin to pin she has the strength to really take over a match defensively and terminate on offense. She can play high and really get on top of the ball where she can thump on the ten foot line.
Katelyn Nichols – SWMNVB 17-1 – Windom – Class of 2020
Nichols is one of the leaders out of the Class of 2020 who will be looking for a big senior season for Windom this fall. A middle blocker who is very aggressive and terminal she controls the net with a quick snap on her swing. This SWMNVB squad recently finished third in the 17 American Division with a strong core of athletes that come from the Class of 2022 which include Sadie Voss, Maysa Gillingham, Natalee Rolbiecki, and Karli Arkell.
Sadie Voss – SWMNVB 17-1 – Jackson County Central – Class of 2022 (Title Picture)
Six rotation outside and from the Class of 2022, Voss is all out, all the time. This past weekend at NLQ she was coming up big for her team whether it was a swing on the pin or diving into a chair to save a ball (I did witness that by Voss). A really solid all around athlete.
Yang and Gully of MVA 16 Elite.Jackie Yang – MVA 16 Elite – Johnson – Class of 2022
Yang is quick and has a knack for where to find the next ball. A top libero for Minnesota Volleyball Academy, Yang has been playing young. Extremely solid and dependable, she is a major key for getting MVA into system.
Madison Gully – MVA 16 Elite – St. Francis – Class of 2021
Coaches always want their attackers to be fast to the ball with their approach. Gully approaches very aggressively and just finds a way to score points. Her style is so fun to watch because she is not afraid of a block and is able to hit a variety of angles to keep the defense off balance.
Lauren Link – Northern Lights 17-2 – Academy of Holy Angels – Class of 2020
Link is the pro-typical outside hitter who is long, athletic, and can really terminate in multiple ways. A standout for Holy Angels, Link is also a big time go to player for NL 17-2 who competed this past weekend where Link and her teammates finished in the top ten of the 17 USA Division.
Jadyn Garrison – Kokoro 16-1 – East Ridge – Class of 2021
Kokoro 16-1 has built themselves a solid season and Garrison is a big part of that. She is a really aggressive outside that plays with a lot of fire and intensity. She lights a spark with her team and just finds a way to put the ball away.
