1.What are your goals heading into your senior season?
Heading into my senior season, I am the only captain for my volleyball team so my biggest goal is to help the younger kids to feel welcome onto the team and to keep the team close and comfortable together. Also, to be the most loud and excited one on the court to help everyone else be excited. I would like to improve on closing the block and to get better at reading my shots.
2. How did last years season go for your team and you individually?
Our season last year was incredible. I think we all were a little disappointed with the way it ended because we wanted to go to state. We had great chemistry on the team though and, it was so much fun to play with everyone. For me personally, I improved a lot and really enjoyed every part of the season on and off the court.
3. How do you feel you have evolved from freshman to senior year as a player and as a person?
Freshman year I was a quiet kid that was new to the quick sets and scared of making mistakes. I have changed a lot since then. I have realized making mistakes it part of getting better, and have really came out of my shell too. Now, I would say I am one of the louder players on and off the court.
4. Who or what has inspired you the most throughout your volleyball career?
My coach Traci Grussing has inspired me to be a better player throughout my volleyball career. She has coached me since eighth grade. She has always pushed me and our whole team to be the best we can be.
5. How did you end up playing for Kandi Elite ? What made Kandi Elite the right choice for you?
I ended up playing for Kandi Elite because many other people from my school team played club volleyball there. My school coach also pulled me aside during practice one day and talked to me about trying out. I had always felt a lot of support from the coaches of Kandi during season too.
6. Is volleyball your sole commitment, or are there other athletics/activities that you’re involved in? If you’re a multi-sport athlete, how do you feel that helps you overall as a young athlete?
I am a three sport athlete. Along with volleyball I am also in gymnastics and track. I think overall it keeps me in really good shape. No matter what sport season it is I have practice almost everyday.
7. When it comes to support, who do you feel are your biggest supporters and how have they motivated you to be the competitor that you are today?
My mom is definitely one of my biggest supporters. She almost never misses a game and is always cheering me on super loud from the stands. My dad is another one of my biggest supporters. He is always there to talk about the game after and help me pick out things I can work on. My coaches and my teammates are also some of my biggest supporters. Every single one of them is always there to pick me up when I need it and to congratulate me when I do something right.
8. What fuels you to play at the collegiate level?
My coaches have always been the ones to encourage me to play at the collegiate level. I think it would be fun and a great experience to play.
9. Have you committed to playing anywhere at the collegiate level? Do you plan to?
I have not committed to any college yet and I haven’t fully decided if I plan to or not.
10. What are some things that have impacted your playing career thus far, positively or negatively? (i.e injuries, coaching changes, switching positions, joining club volleyball, moving, etc.)
One of the biggest things that has impacted my volleyball career is my Juvenile Arthritis. It has made it hard to play at certain times because of how my joints felt. It has made me a stronger player for working through it. Another impact was going Kandi Elite . Playing on a good club team during off season helped me out so much.
11. What advice would you give to the underclassmen as you enter your last year of high school volleyball? What will you miss most?
The best advice I could give the underclassmen is to enjoy every second of it. It goes by so fast. The people I have met through volleyball have become some of my best friends. Make a lot of friends and incredible memories and play your hardest. The drills you do in practice might be dreadful, but I promise it will help you become better. Lastly have a lot of fun.
