Every year is different, but with the core of the team centered around senior, setter, Morgan Langeslag, there will likely be little change to the season’s outcome. Here are the five areas Morgan excels in:
Schedule: Currently ranked ninth in the coaches poll, this team doesn’t shy away from tough competition. They have played Stewartville, Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, Cannon Falls, Fairbault BA, Minneota and more. Playing a tough schedule builds the team’s character. Even with an occasional loss, they continue to show improvement. This has helped develop Morgan into a dynamic player with an exceptional drive to win.
Coach-able: Morgan takes direction well. She puts all of her energy into each and every play. Her discipline to follow a game-plan shows through her confident, calm demeanor. She is also open to suggestions from teammates. Respecting other players on a team, means hearing what they have to say and trying it out. As the unofficial leader of the team, Morgan calls much of the hits for her team, but they seem to be confident in her choices. It is a well-balanced relationship between her and her peers.
Adaptable: Being a smart player on the court is an essential trait for a setter. Not only does Morgan have a strong understanding of the game, but she is quick to adapt to the game’s changing circumstances. When necessary, she will find ways to change things when they aren’t going well; such as: changing set tempo or height, having hitters attack from different spots, utilizing all players and so much more. I have seen her modify her style of play to put her team in the best position to win. Sometimes this might mean dumping several times and others not at all.
Look for Morgan to be the driving force behind her team during playoffs. Her teammates Emma Kniefel and Kinsey Cronin will be at the net. And making Morgan’s job easier in the back row: players Izzy Reuvers and Kiley Nihart.
