Many players climbed their way to a new spot, and there are many new names. The class of 2021 is a talented group with tall, athletic players many who have already decided play in college. The growth and skill of these six setters has not gone unnoticed.
#46 Olivia Koeppen 5’9” – Minnetonka
This dynamic junior led Minnetonka to a great season. Her stats are unreal: average 17.7 assists/match, only 11 serving errors during the regular season, and seven games with 10 or more digs. Olivia had 109 assists at the state tournament in which her team finished third; 57 assists in their five game win over Moorhead. Catch her playing for M1 this winter.
#71 Audrey Spolidoro 5’10” – East Ridge
This East Ridge setter, and her team had high hopes for their season being ranked early on in the season. Despite a young roster, and a few injuries, there were undefeated in the Suburban East conference. Spolidoro was heart of this team and proved it early on with a great win over the 2018 state champs – Champlin Park.
# 80 Gracie Whitlock 5’10” – Kittson County Central
Gracie finished the season with over 700 assists. Her strength is consistency. She helps her attackers by placing the ball to the same spot nearly every set. This carries to the serving line too. Her team relied on her for easy points from the end-line. In half of their matches, she added at least two service aces. Her understanding of how to take opponents out of their offense is a huge benefit.
#85 Halle Bemmels – LeSueur-Henderson
Despite their losing record, Bemmels did everything she could to ensure they maintained top level play in the Minnesota River Conference. She is a three sport athlete who claims volleyball as her favorite. Her competitive drive is apparent every chance she touches the ball. Her technique is excellent and similar to the great athletes John Yunker (her club coach) has taught at Champlin Park.
#87 Ellie Ready 5’5” – Waterville-Elysian-Morristown
No stranger to true fans, Ellie Ready, is the slightly smaller setter who plays big! WEM’s season highlight had to be when they defeated Mayer Lutheran to advance to state. In this match Ready had 40 assists, 10 digs and a serving percentage of 94.7%.
#100 Kora Norland 5’6” – Fosston
Smaller schools, like 1A Fosston, build their programs around athletes like Kora Norland who can do it all. Her leadership skills and talent were on display at the state tournament and we couldn’t take our eyes off her. Fast feet, quick hands, strong serving, and consistency are just a few of her traits. We anticipate seeing her again next year at the state tournament.
