Here are five athletes under the radar with potential to capitalize on the great opportunity the club season provides to raise their stock.
Kalleigh Carr – 5’6 | L/DS | SWMNVB 18-1
Carr can provide a big defensive spark for her team in patrolling the back row. She plays defense with a low center of gravity that allows her to use her hands and platform with good range to the floor and overhead. She has good quickness with her feet and in her reaction time to the opposing offense. Improving her eye work and more patience in her defensive preparation will increase her effectiveness and efficiency overall. She brings great competitive experience to the floor for SWMNVB.
Sonia Dahlin – 5’10 | OH/MB | M1
Dahlin was part of a Minnetonka team that made an impressive run through the 2019 high school season. She has good versatility to play in the middle or on either pin. She gets her feet to the ball well and develops nice torque in the air that helps her put some good pace behind the ball. She has good elevation that allows her to use all of her 5’10 frame offensively. Her versatility is an asset as she can terminate through a variety of attack points.
Bryn Hoekman – 6’1 | MB | SWMNVB 17-1
A 2019 Red Rock all-conference selection for Murray County Central, Hoekman has good transition footwork to make herself available offensively in the middle. She has good elevation with quick arm preparation that allows her to swing at the peak of her jump and and with good pace on the ball. She has great potential to raise her stock and eventually climb into the top 50 or higher over the course of the club season.
Waverly Thao – 5’8 | S | Kokoro
A 2019 Suburban East all-conference honorable mention selection for Mounds View, Thao will provide floor leadership and distribution for Kokoro this club season. Her high hand position can be effectively deceptive when getting her feet to the ball on balance as she has ability to distribute a moderate tempo from pin to pin with good location for her hitters. Improving her patience and foot speed will benefit her on both sides of the ball.
Samantha Zimmerman – 6’0 | MB | Moorhead JO
An offensive leader for the Moorhead Spuds, Zimmerman helped her high school squad return to the state tournament in 2019. She is very active in the middle on both sides of the ball. A multi-sport athlete, she has good footwork blocking between the pins with rangy length to get up and put good pressure on opposing attackers. Offensively, she has good floor awareness to make herself available and has show good efficiency with her opportunities. She currently ranks at #79 in the 2021 class.
