Dahlin has good command of her opportunities offensively from various locations across the net. She gets her feet to the ball well and her timing is consistent to allow her to hit with moderate power and range. Listed as a middle for this team, she looks comfortable on the right side as well helping to provide some depth at multiple positions. She shows good spacing and timing with her setter on quick tempo options in the middle that allows her to respond well to the defense in front of her. She is a key element for this team and brings with her good training and competitive experience as a member of a solid Minnetonka squad that made a deep run into the class 3A state tournament in 2019.
Sydney Petersen – 5’11 | Opp/S | Club: MN Select 17-2
Petersen has good tools and maximizes them well. She reads the floor effectively and creates good angles in her ball control that puts her setter in a good position. She also has good versatility at the net to be effective swinging from both pins. Her comfort as an attacker seems to be at the opposite and she develops good momentum in her footwork. She can also take aggressive and effective swings from the left side and back row. Her awareness as a hitter also creates opportunity to mix up her shots. Her versatility also includes the ability to step in and set, which can be advantageous with her ability to be able to turn and take a good swing if needed or available.
Paige Sheehan – 5’9 | S | Club: MN Select 17-2
Sheehan has great competitive experience and success having guided the North Branch offense the past couple of years, including reaching the pinnacle of the high school season as the class 2A state champion in 2018. She has good court awareness in relation to set location and force to help create opportunities for her hitters to be successful. Her arsenal also includes good variety in tempo from pin to pin and the ability to maintain her location when on the move. One area that may help elevate her value is by developing higher hand position upon contact that will improve her balance and increase deceptiveness with her decision-making.
Waverly Thao – 5’7 | S | Club: Kokoro 17-1
Thao has good touch and extension on the ball through all phases of the offense. She has good movement from defense to transition to get on balance for second touch control that can offer up multiple options available for her through both pins. Perhaps undersized regarding her defensive presence at the net against opposing outside hitters, she does provide good stability and effort defensively in the back row. She is quick and has low center of gravity that allows her to pursue the ball in all directions.
Claire Walsh – 5’11 | OH | Club: MN North 17-1
One thing that really stands out regarding Walsh’s play is in her first contact pursuit and delivery. Through serve receive and defensive opportunities she is very deliberate in her preparation all the way through the angle creation and contact. She watches play development with good intent and makes herself available to react effectively and with good results. On the offensive side she can terminate. She shows fluid movement in her footwork that is followed by a great double-arm lift to high contact point at the peak of her jump and swing. She also develops good torque to hit with range and with good pace. The Grand Rapids product deserves attention as a six rotation athlete that is fundamentally sound in all facets of the game.
