Athleticism and deception. These are two great attributes of Weidemann’s game as a setter. She has great quickness around the floor and has developed consistency in her hand position when she contacts the ball, making her difficult to read upon her distribution choices. Additionally, she has also developed great in-system range as she can successfully involve her middles when drawn out of the zone while also being able to set against the flow to the pins with tempo and accuracy. Her floor leadership involves great effort and a lot of variety in the offense, which allows her hitters more options to be successful while adding pressure to the defense to keep up. She is part of a M1 17-1 squad that features some prolific attackers and will return to a

program in the fall for her final season. The Cougars return some terrific arms and if they can establish the balance that Weidemann can deliver then they will be able to compete well with the best programs.

Engeman is arguably the best middle in this class in Minnesota. She has a great physical frame that is long and rangy. Add her quickness and elevation and she instantly becomes a handful for opposing teams. She has great offensive range in that she is aggressive, has great reach, and can score through a variety of options. She sees the first contact well, which allows her to create the timing and spacing she needs through any play. Whether off one foot in front or overhead, or through quick tempos on the setter, she scored a lot of points for her Minnetonka team in 2019. The Skippers advanced to the state tournament where they fell short in the semifinal round. Although a shortened club season in 2020, she competed for one of the top 17s teams in the nation and continued to improve through their high-level training and competitive schedule. Look for Engeman to be an offensive leader again for Minnetonka in 2020 as they should be in the mix for a top 10 ranking at the start of the season.

Galvin is a gamer. She is dynamic in her skill set as a six-rotation athlete with tools to help her contribute in a variety of ways. As an attacker she has some of the best court awareness in the air of any of the pin attackers in this class in Minnesota. She capitalizes on that well through good momentum build and lift that leads to great control of her arm. She can swing for power, control, and make the right off speed play depending on what the defense is giving her. Her elevation and aggressiveness also make her a great option out of the back row as well. She has great ball control and defense given her size and the range she can create in pursuit of the ball. An all-state honorable mention selection in 2019, Galvin led the Raptors to a very successful season as they ended just shy of the state tournament. Including Galvin, they have some additional veteran pieces returning and they could very likely take that next postseason step in 2020.

Hornyak had a stellar 2019 high school season for Lakeville North as she helped guide her team to a class 3A state tournament appearance. With a 2-1 record over the final weekend the Panthers won the consolation bracket. Hornyak was the offensive leader as a left side attacker that saw a fair amount of opportunity to swing. Rightfully so as she has developed into a true point scorer with the power and movement she can generate with her arm. At 5’11 she maximizes her size well through great footwork, torque and arm control, and some of the best physicality in the air. As a six-rotation athlete she has good ball control and is a great offensive option in any rotation. She is a key attacker for one of the top 17s teams in the country and will once again be the leader for a Lakeville North team that returns good depth and offensive support. They should be among the early-season favorites for a state appearance once again.
