[player_tooltip player_id="79673" first="Riley" last="Batta"] (South Central Calhoun) 304 (778, .274)

[player_tooltip player_id="79687" first="Reagan" last="Jansen"] (Sioux Center) 270 (1003, .181)

[player_tooltip player_id="79704" first="Kalvyn" last="Rosengarten"] (Wapsie Valley) 263 (606, .318)

Gabby Deery (Burlington Notre Dame) 227 (659, .209)

Kayla Knowles (Denver) 227 (567, .132)

--- Schoonhoven’s freshman-leading kill total is fairly far down the overall list, but that’s not at all a knock on a player undergoing her first varsity season against primarily older competition.

--- Jansen finished with the most attack attempts in her class with only 88 errors on 1,003 swings. That kill rate is bound to pick up with three more varsity seasons for her to build on.

--- The top kill rate among Iowa’s top 10 freshman hitters belongs to Iowa City Liberty’s Hartmann at .349. Wapsie Valley’s Rosengarten isn’t too far off at .318.

Freshman assists leaders

--- Chizek’s assist total was good for 21st in Iowa, not at all a bad debut season for the young setter.

--- VanHook (4A), Badding (3A) and Howard (1A) all made their way to the state tournament with Badding setting her team to the state championship match in 3A, a three-set loss to Mount Vernon.

Grace Nelson (Bishop Heelan) 65 (.76)

--- Deery’s block total ranked 24th overall in the state and also was best among freshmen with 1.01 blocks per set and 49 solo blocks.

--- O’Brien had the most block assists among freshman with 57. East Mills’ Williams finished a close second in that category with 56 and Western Dubuque’s [player_tooltip player_id="79692" first="Libby" last="Lansing"] was right behind at 55.
