The 6’1 middle has been such a fun athlete to watch progress over the past couple of seasons as she has developed into a dynamic athlete that can contribute in a variety of ways. Currently ranked at #43 by Prep Dig in the Minnesota class of 2021, Koenig has skills that rival any of the middles in the top 50. In fact, as her steady progress has continued, she quite possibly is among the top three or four middles in this class, which should be reflected in the next prospect rankings update closer to the high school season. As she currently plays for Northern Lights 17-Black, the top middles she rivals compete for NL’s two top 17s team and another U17 squad in the region.
She has terrific quickness in her game that she has learned to harness well in developing the right amount of slow-to-fast momentum build in her approach patterns both in front and behind the setter. She elevates well at just shy of 10′ and creates good torque that can bring a lot of pace behind the ball. On the defensive side, she has good vision and mechanics that help her get on opposing hitters quickly and aggressively. One of her best attributes is her infectious spirit on the court. As she competes well and works hard, she also brings terrific energy to her game.
Northfield had a terrific year in 2019 in spite of a disappointing late-season finish. Koenig’s steady improvement saw some big contributions in 2019 but her role and impact should be much bigger and better this next season. As one of the top-ranked teams last fall Northfield should open up among the favorites again as they bring back a terrific core group of veteran athletes. This group includes Pac-12 bound Emma Torstenson Emma Torstenson 5'11" | DS/L Northfield | 2021 State MN , outside hitter Rachel Wieber Rachel Wieber 6'0" | OH Northfield | 2021 State MN (committed to Southern Utah), and the dynamic play of uncommitted pin attacker Megan Reilly Megan Reilly 6'0" | OH Northfield | 2021 State MN , who should also land at the DI level. This team also features some of the best team ball control in the state, which should help Koenig shine as a middle attacker. With this top-level talent among the returning senior class, the Raiders will certainly be fun to watch this next high school season.
Koenig is headed to one of the better mid-major programs as Miami (OH) has won four consecutive MAC regular season titles. With back-to-back appearances in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship in 2018 and 2019, the Redhawks earned consecutive bids to the NCAA tournament in 2016 and 2017.
