More often than not, seniors have to embrace the responsibility of being the most influential players in their squads and these four athletes have shown they are up to the task last year, so feel free to expect even more from them when the 2020 season starts.
Cora ter Kuile – Outside Hitter/Right Sider – Bellevue Christian
The 6’1” ter Kuile is the heart and soul of Bellevue Christian. The senior is not only a powerful hitter, but also a versatile one as she’s capable of doing damage from the left, right and even from the back row. She’s the centerpiece of nearly everything the Vikings do on the court and was their top hitter (332 kills), server (44 aces), defender (160 digs) and serve receiver (318 passes) during their 2019 campaign.
Emma Adams – Defensive Specialist – Columbia River
Columbia River is one of the toughest teams in the state to score against and Adams is one of the big reasons for that. The defensive specialist controls the team’s backcourt with mastery and offers a significant contribution to the success of the Chieftains with her impressive defensive game. Last season, her 473 digs were good enough for fourth in Washington and she was also instrumental in leading the team’s serve receiving efforts with 342 passes and only 19 errors.
Katie Kogler – Middle-Blocker – Firm Foundation Christian
Kogler was responsible for more than half of the points Firm Foundation Christian scored in the 2019 season. The 6’0” player led the team in kills (389), blocks (79) and aces (56). In the first two skills, she registered more points than all of her teammates combined. Kogler was also a central figure in Eagles’ defensive system, something unusual for a middle-blocker, being the team’ top serve-receiver (240) and second-best digger (221).
Kambel Fiser – Setter/Right Setter – West Seattle
It’s not usual to see setters prominently stand out on box scores, but that has been the case with Fiser. Her hybrid role of setter/right sider has panned out pretty well as West Seattle’s captain has been able to use all of her skills for the benefit of the team. In 2019, the 5’ 11” athlete led the team in assists (446), kills (159) and aces (80) and was second in blocks (75) and digs (299) proving to be a complete player.
