That leaves the position open to a lot of new faces for the fall.
However, there are still some talented setters returning to their starting post this year.
Here’s a look at the top setters entering the season in Division 4.
Katie Hopkins, Sr. Oakland Christian
Hopkins is a fourth-year player for Oakland Christian and has been a team captain since she was a sophomore. The Lancers have been without a senior the last two seasons, which has forced Hopkins to be a very vocal voice at a young age. Last year, Hopkins was Honorable Mention All-State in D4. She truly embraces the leadership role for Oakland Christian and sets a great ball for her teammates.
Hallie Creighton, Jr. Plymouth Christian
Creighton raised her game a lot in 2019 while earning Honorable Mention All-State honors. She amassed 740 assists, 169 digs and 56 aces for the Eagles. It was her first year as the varsity setter for Plymouth Christian. Now the team will look to her for leadership in her junior year. She should be able to raise the game of her hitters and keep PCA as a top squad in D4.
Brooklyn Robak, Sr. Our Lady of the Lakes
The Lakers won a district championship in 2019 with the help of Robak. She was Honorable Mention All-State last year. A multi-sport talent, Robak is determined to be a winner and she has grown her game each year. She has the athleticism to make tough plays and the competitive drive to will her team to a victory. With all of the Lakers back for 2020, they should be a top contender.
Catherine Buko, Sr. Nouvel Catholic Central
Buko was an Honorable Mention All-State selection as she helped guide Nouvel to a district championship in 2019. Buko brings great leadership to the floor for the Panthers. She moves very well on the floor and makes the right calls for Nouvel. Buko is in for a big senior season.
Jana Molby, Sr. Leland
Molby helped Leland reach the Division 4 finals last year with a relatively young roster. She really spread the ball around to the multiple hitting options the team had. Molby finished with over 800 assists and also racked up 65 aces. Molby has a lot of trust from her coaches and teammates and knows how to keep the offense running like a well-oiled machine.
Chesney Molina, Sr. Rudyard
Molina handled most of the setting for Rudyard last year while leading the Bulldogs to the D4 state semifinals. As a junior, Molina had over 600 assists for a talented mix of hitters. With some great middles returning, combined with the experience and poise of Molina, Rudyard has expectations for another big postseason run.
Samantha Souva, Sr. Ubly
Souva had a strong run in 2019 as she helped Ubly reach the D4 quarterfinals. The junior had over 700 assists for an offense that had a lot of returning hitters. The Bearcats brings back a lot of key pieces to keep that offense as one of the best in D4. Souva will be obviously important to that. She has great chemistry with her hitters and gained a lot of confidence from her junior season.
Honorable Mention: Allison Hauck, Sr. Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart; Keagan Skacal, Sr. AuGres-Sims.
