While most of the top performers of a high school volleyball season are deservedly awarded a spot in the All-State team, a few others fly under-the-radar and put up big numbers in a more quiet way. That was the case with these five players, so keep an eye on them when the 2020 season starts for the Class 2B in Washington.
Abigail Boesel – Setter – Sophomore – Brewster
Abigail Boesel’s freshman season with Brewster left no doubts that she has All-State team quality on her game. The 5’6” setter was impressive on her first year of high school volleyball leading the Lady Bears to a State Championship appearance with an efficient game. Boesel excelled in setting her teammates up with 700 assists (8.4 per set) and also contributed at the backcourt with 144 digs and from the service line with 44 aces.
Ella-Leigh Anderson – Outside Hitter – Sophomore – Crosspoint
Ella-Leigh Anderson was a defensive force for Crosspoint in 2019. In her first full year of high school volleyball, the 5’5” outside hitter showed how much of an impact she could do for the Warriors on the defensive end of the game with a team-high 345 digs (5.3 per set) and 192 passes, which ranked her second in that department. If she manages to add some more firepower to her offense, she’d get the whole package sorted out.
Payton Torrey – Outside Hitter – Sophomore – Mossyrock
Payton Torrey was a key member of Mossyrock’s team that finished third at last year’s State Championship. As a freshman, the 5’8” outside hitter checked all the boxes for the Vikings as she was the team’s second-best hitter with 145 kills and added 214 digs, 197 passes and 37 aces. With 2019’s Co-Player of the Year Andee Nelson not returning next season, expect Torrey to have an even bigger role with the Vikings.
Hailey Jones – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Ocosta
Ocosta didn’t make the trip to Yakima for last year’s State Championship, but middle-blocker Hailey Jones showed she belongs in the division’s elite with her solid play over the season. The 5’10” was one of the most important players for the Wildcats last season with significant contributions on offense, where she tallied 70 kills, and defense, an area where she provided 36 blocks.
Addy Schmidt – Libero – Junior – Crosspoint
Addy Schmidt formed one of the best defensive combos in the division with fellow Warrior Ella-Leigh Anderson. The duo helped Crosspoint to make a State Championship run with solid defensive game, to which the 5’4” Schmidt contributed with 342 digs, averaging 5.3 per set, and 162 passes.
