Serving also provides tams with the massive opportunity of scoring points with a single action and these five prospects showed they can do that and more during the 2019 season of the Class 2B in Washington.
Madi Zorn – Setter – Junior – Northwest Christian
Madi Zorn did a lot of things right in 2019, when she took Northwest Christian to the State Championship final and earned an All-State first-team selection. One of those things was certainly serving as the 5’8” setter was one of the few players in the state to reach triple digits in aces. Zorn had 107 points straight from the service line for the Crusaders, averaging 1.1 per set, and was absolutely on fire at the State Championship quarterfinals, when she had six aces against Toutle Lake.
Ella-Leigh Anderson – Outside Hitter – Sophomore – Crosspoint
Ella-Leigh Anderson improved basically every aspect of Crosspoint’s game in 2019, when she was a freshman. The 5’5” outside hitter was effective on offense and defense, but her serving game was also lights out for the Warriors. Her 106 aces (1.6 per set) accounted for nearly one-third of the entire team and played an important role in the team’s campaign that ended at the State Championship. She had an 18-point performance against Concordia Christian Academy.
Sahara Browing – Outside Hitter – Junior – Walla Walla Valley Academy
It’s hard to find something Sahara Browing doesn’t do well and, if there’s anything, it’s certainly not serving. The 5’8” prospect was fantastic for Walla Walla Valley Academy last season and led the Knights’ march to a State Championship appearance with 94 aces. Most impressively, she reached that amount in only 269 actions, meaning she had an ace every three serves she attempted. For that reason, she was an All-State team honorable mention.
Mia Tunison – Outside Hitter – Junior – Northwest Christian
Mia Tunison was a key player in Northwest Christian’s run to the State Championship final last year. The 5’8” outside hitter helped the Crusaders overcome the opponents that crossed their paths in a variety of ways and one of the most noticeable ones was through her serving ability. Lethal from the service line, Tunison added 82 points for her team in that area and was deservedly rewarded with an All-State team honorable mention.
Macyn Scherger – Setter – Senior – Walla Walla Valley Academy
Besides of taking care of her main responsibilities with ball distribution at the Walla Walla Valley Academy, Macyn Scherger showed she could be a high-scoring setter for the Knights in 2019. The five-foot prospect is very aggressive on the court and ended the season as her team’s third-best scorer with 135 points. Nearly half of her production was earned at the service line as she tallied 64 aces over the season, averaging one per set.
