Serving also provides tams with the massive opportunity of scoring points with a single action and these five prospects showed they can do that and more during the 2019 season of the Class 3A in Washington.
Emily Mekelburg Emily Mekelburg 6'0" | OH Arlington | 2022 WA – Outside Hitter – Junior – Arlington
A member of prepdig.com’s 2022 watch list, Emily Mekelburg Emily Mekelburg 6'0" | OH Arlington | 2022 WA provided most of the serving Arlington needed to finish sixth at last year’s State Championship. The six-foot outside hitter was a force from the service line as she used her size and great technique to hurt the Eagles’ opponents during the season, registering 87 aces (1.1 per set). An All-State team honorable mention nominee, she had a season-high nine aces against Stanwood.
Kambel Fiser – Setter/Right Sider – Senior – West Seattle
Serving was just one of the things Kambel Fiser did at an outstanding level for West Seattle in 2019. Splitting her time between setter and right sider duties with the team, the 5’11” prospect also found ways to make her contributions from the service line, tallying 80 aces (one per set) for Wert Seattle. She was on fire early in the season as she had 13 aces against Stadium in the team’s second match.
McKenzie Whyte – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Snohomish
McKenzie Whyte was a cornerstone for the Snohomish team that competed at last year’s State Championship. The middle-blocker was the Panthers’ leading scorer and also did a great job on defense, but her impact from the service line was just as remarkable. Serving certainly gets easier when you are 6’2” and Whyte took advantage of every inch she had to register 58 aces (1.1 per set) for Snohomish.
Aaliyah Caldejon – Outside Hitter – Senior – Cleveland
Aaliyah Caldejon played in only 28 of Cleveland’s 43 sets last season, but she had enough time to show some a promising game from the service line. A 5’5” outside hitter, she couldn’t make a huge impact at the net, so she focused on being the best server she could and she did a good job with that registering 27 aces. More relevant than her one ace per set average was the fact that she needed only 65 attempts to score that many points, getting an impressive 41.5 percent ace percentage.
Sami Dammand – Outside Hitter – Senior – Roosevelt
Sami Dammand was Roosevelt’s leading server during the 2019 season that saw the Roughriders appear at the State Championship semifinals and finish fourth. The 5’8” outside hitter was lethal from the service line, ending the season with 61 aces to her name, including eight she registered in a sweep against Lincoln.
