The 2020 season of the Class 3A in Washington state should have top-level competition from start to finish and these five teams might be one step ahead of the other as they have some of the best setters in the division.
Telia Allen – Junior – Mt. Spokane
Telia Allen has been an All-State team member in each of her two championship-winning campaigns with Mount Spokane as she made it to the second team in 2018 and climbed to the first team last season. The 5’10” setter was born in the middle of a volleyball family and she takes advantage of the natural chemistry with older sister and outside hitter Tia to run the Wildcats’ offense masterfully. A great demonstration of her solid and precise game happened during last year’s State Championship final against Capital, when she notched 22 assists.
Taylor Pederson Taylor Pederson 5'6" | S Arlington | 2022 WA – Junior – Arlington
Taylor Pederson Taylor Pederson 5'6" | S Arlington | 2022 WA has grown into a pivotal role with Arlington in her second season of high school volleyball last year. After modest participation in 2018, she was given the keys of the Eagles’ offensive and responded in a great way, leading the team to a sixth-place finish at the State Championship with 475 assists (5.7 per set). The 5’6” setter’s development didn’t go unnoticed as she earned an All-State team honorable mention for that and was included at prepdig.com’s Class of 2022 watch list.
Kambel Fiser – Senior – West Seattle
Kambel Fiser was easily West Seattle’s most important player in 2019. Even if the team didn’t make it to the State Championship, the 5’11” prospect stood out as she was able to help the team in multiple ways. She did a great job in setting, registering 446 assists (5.8 per set), but also embraced scoring responsibilities when at the net as, playing as a right sider, was the team’s leading hitter with 159 kills.
Charlise Johansen – Senior – Stadium
Charlise Johansen didn’t get a lot of playing time with Stadium last season, but she did an outstanding job with the limited opportunity she received. The 5’6” setter saw the court in only 30 of the 65 sets the Tigers played, but still managed to impress with 273 assists and a fantastic average of 9.1 per set.
Keahi Sarono – Senior – Central Kitsap
Keahi Sarono led Central Kitsap to State Championship appearances in two of her three seasons with the team. The 5’9” setter has been instrumental for the Cougars with her consistent distribution and calm and confident attitude. In 2019, she earned an All-State team honorable mention after she registered 544 stats (8.5 per set) as the team finished seventh at the State Championship.
