First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
Our second stop is at 1A Emerald Sound, which has 13 high schools set to compete, and some of their players with the greatest upside are:
Sydney Goad – Outside Hitter/Libero – Senior – Overlake
Sydney Goad’s well-polished all-around game allows her to impact basically every aspect of the game. The Overlake prospect received All-State team honorable mention honors as an outside hitter in 2019, but led the team in assists (301) and aces (85). She also did well on defense, ranking second with 40. Her 5’6” frame limits her efficiency on the offensive side of the game, but she can be dangerous as a technical and smart hitter, one that might not score as many points but who rarely makes mistakes.
Abigail Miller – Outside Hitter – Senior – Sultan
Sultan’s offense revolves around Abigail Miller for good reason. The 5’9” outside hitter is a reliable and efficient scoring option, having led the team in that department last season with 232 kills, nearly half of the Turks’ entire production. Miller has also played a prominent role in the team’s serve receiving efforts, having passed the ball an impressive 310 times in 2019. The outside hitter also made her presence felt in other areas of the game, being the team’s second-best server (41 aces) and third-best blocker (25 points) and defender (284 digs).
Kayla Nelson – Libero – Senior – Cedar Park Christian
Kayla Nelson was a stud for Cedar Park Christian on their last campaign, earning an All-State team honorable mention. The 5’6” defensive star excelled on her defensive duties with the Eagles, leading the team in both digs (248) and passes (312) as one would expect. However, as not many would anticipate, she had a significant impact in several other aspects of the team’s game, adding 44 aces, 104 assists and even 24 kills.
