First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
The third district we take a look at is 1A Evergreen, which has five high schools set to compete, and their best three players are:
Ella Moore – Setter – Senior – Elma
Guided by Ella Moore, Elma has won all of its eight matches in the division in the last two seasons. The 5’11” setter has posted impressive numbers on both occasions for the Eagles, registering 431 assists in 2018 and 382 last year while improving her assists per set average from 6.8 to 8.3. In 2019, Moore contributed in other areas of the game as well, adding 18 kills, 32 aces, nine blocks and 131 digs on her way to receive an All-State team honorable mention to become an All-League first-selection.
McKynnlie Dalan – Middle-Blocker – Sophomore – Montesano
McKynnlie Dalan’s arrival noticeably strengthened Montesano’s position in the division as the freshman led the Bulldogs to win six of their eight district matches in 2019. The six-foot middle-blocker instantly provided a strong presence at the net and proved to be a prolific scorer, averaging 3.9 kills per set to a total of 62 – including three matches with 14 or more. Her blocking game also stood out with 13 points in 16 sets and all those factors led to her to receive and an All-League first-team nomination.
Hailey Lawrence –Libero – Senior – Hoquiam
Hoquiam didn’t have the best of the seasons in 2019, when the team won just one of its five district matches, but one area the Grizzlies didn’t have nearly as much struggle was defense. Led by the intense and efficient Hailey Lawrence, the team showed a solid backcourt game which will hopefully be a stepping stone for better campaigns. Lawrence registered frequent double-digit digging performances throughout the season and deservedly ended up as an All-League first-team member.
