First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
The fourth district we address is 1A Nisqually, which has nine high schools set to compete, and their best three players are:
Kate Piasecki – Setter – Junior – Charles Wright
Kate Piasecki did more than arguably any other setter in the district as she had a prominent role in Charles Wright’s perfect 10-0 campaign in 2019. An All-State team honorable mention nominee and an All-League first-selection, the 5’10” setter was instrumental on her ball distribution, assisting her Tarrier teammates a whopping 653 times in the season. Piasecki also had a massive impact in virtually every other area of the game, leading the team in aces (83), ranking second in blocks (24) and third in digs (223), besides offering noticeable help on offense with 76 kills.
Cora ter Kuile – Outside Hitter – Senior – Bellevue Christian
Bellevue Christian ended last season with a positive 6-4 district win record and Cora ter Kuile was certainly the main reason why it happened. The 6’1” outside hitter didn’t shy away from her responsibilities as the team’s best player and led her side in four of the five skill categories she possible could, ranking first among the Vikings in kills (332), aces (44), digs (160) and passes (318) – she was not too far behind in blocking, with a third-best mark of 29. Her strong play earned her an All-State team honorable mention and a spot on the All-League first team.
Avaree Dumars – Outside Hitter – Senior – Cascade Christian
Avaree Dumars was a force for the second-best team in the district as Cascade Christian earned seven wins in ten matches in 2019. Dumars, an All-League first-team selection, was particularly impressive for the Cougars at the net, where her 5’9” frame helped her lead the team in kills with 272 and rank second in blocks with 17. She also posted good numbers from the service line with 39 aces.
