First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
At this point, we analyze the 1A SCAC (South Central Athletic Conference) East district, which has five high schools set to compete, and some of their players with the greatest upside are:
Emma Andrewjeski – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Connell
Emma Andrewjeski is a 6’1” middle-blocker with a lot of upside. The Connell product hugely benefits from her size to be a force at the net, as she did last season, when she was the Lady Eagles’ third-best scorer with 122 kills. She’s also a great blocker, having led the team in that department with 37 points, and a capable server, having registered 22 aces during the season. Andrewjeski was included in last year’s All-League second team.
Sara Fernandez – Libero – Senior – Kiona-Benton
Sara Fernandez was the focal point of Kiona-Benton last season and she did a great job in that role, leading the Lady Bears to a successful 11-1 campaign. The 5’6” defender can also play as an outside hitter if needed, but her game really shows at the backcourt, where she can use the work she puts as a track and field student-athlete to her advantage. Her strong game didn’t go unnoticed in 2019, when she earned an All-League second-team nomination.
Jill Benson – Setter – Senior – Connell
Jill Benson did a great job in 2019 as she was the setter of the Connell team that finished at the top of the district. In her first season as a starter, the 5’7” player fitting in nicely, handing out 404 assists during the season and contributing in other areas of the game with 27 kills, 14 aces, 20 blocks and 135 digs. Her game with the Lady Eagles took her to receive an All-League team honorable mention.
