First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
At this point, we analyze the 1A SCAC (South Central Athletic Conference) East district, which has five high schools set to compete, and their best three players are:
Alyssa Radke – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Connell
The best player from the best team in the district is certainly an automatic part of the list, so here’s Alyssa Radke. The six-foot middle-blocker excelled in every category for Connell last season, being the team’s top-scorer (184 kills), server (42 aces) and defender (145 digs) and ranking second in blocks (36) and passes (176). The prospect, which ended the season on a high registering 25 kills against district rivals Kiona-Benton, made it to the All-State team for a second-straight season as part of the second team and was awarded as the All-League Player of the Year in 2019.
Elyzza Gonzales – Setter/Outside Hitter – Junior – Kiona-Benton
Setter and outside hitter are probably the most difficult positions in volleyball and there aren’t many players who are able to perform well in both of them due to the different skill sets required. Elyzza Gonzales is one of them. The Kiona-Benton prospect has the mental strength and the technical skills of a talented setter, but can also do some damage on offense despite her 5’2” frame. Her versatility and solid game for the Lady Bears made of her an All-League second-team member for a second-straight year in 2019.
Ashley Walker – Outside Hitter – Senior – Connell
Ashley Walker will start next season fresh from what was her best year of high school volleyball for Connell yet. The 6’1” outside hitter showed improvement in every aspect of the game in 2019, registering 123 kills, 17 aces, 13 blocks, 127 digs and 97 passes for the Lady Eagles. Walker has a very clean game and rarely makes mistakes, which contributed to her indication as an All-League first-team player in 2019.
