First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
It’s time for one of the most competitive districts, 1A/2A/3A Northwest, which has 16 high schools set to compete, and some of their players with the greatest upside are:
Faith Baar – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Lynden
Faith Baar had no issues while making her presence felt at Lynden’s net last season. The 6’1” prospect was a force for the Lionesses both on offense and on blocking, deservedly becoming one of the team’s key pieces in 2019. The highlight of her season, which ended with an honorable mention for the All-State team and a nomination for the All-League second team, was a 22-kill performance against Pullman during the State Championship.
Jenna Compton – Outside Hitter – Senior – Nooksack Valley
Nooksack Valley didn’t have a ton of success in the district last season, winning seven of its 12 matches, but the same cannot be said about Jenna Compton. The 5’8” outside hitter, who’s also a talented basketball player, stood out for the Pioneers with her game that has just the right mix between technique and power. Her strong performance earned her a berth in the All-League first team.
Gabriella Mackenzie – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Burlington-Edison
Another towering middle-blocker with a huge upside, Gabriella Mackenzie showed how dominant she can be last season, when she trailed only star senior Katie King in Burlington-Edison’s scoring rankings with 189 kills. Her blocking game was also on point in 2019, earning the Lady Tigers a team-high 51 stops at the net.
