First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
It’s time for one of the most competitive districts, 1A/2A/3A Northwest, which has 16 high schools set to compete, and their best three players are:
Amey Rainaud – Setter – Junior – Burlington-Edison
Amey Rainaus posted some jaw-dropping numbers in her 2019 campaign with Burlington-Edison, her second with the team. The most impressive of them was arguably her unbelievable 926 assists, among the best in the entire division. Rainaud was also very prolific from the service line, leading the Lady Tigers in that department with 67 aces, but helped with 297 digs and 45 kills as well. Her solid game earned her consecutive nominations to the All-State second team and a spot in the All-League first team.
Anna VanderYacht – Outside Hitter – Senior – Lynden
Anna VanderYacht was one of the reasons why Lynden shared the top of the district with Burlington-Edison in 2019 with 12 wins and just one loss. The Lionesses strongly relied on the 5’9” outside hitter’s game and she responded accordingly, scoring in bunches for the team. Her play was good enough to earn her an All-State team honorable mention (following a second-team selection in 2018) and a position in the All-League second team.
Liv King – Outside Hitter – Senior – Lynden Christian
Liv King has been a prolific scorer for Lynden Christian in recent years, having registered more than 200 kills in each of the last two seasons. The offensive part of the game is her strongest asset as the 5’8” outside hitter can hit the ball from anywhere in the court and has a wide variety of shots that make it very difficult to stop her. King was an All-State second-team selection in 2019 and was also included in the All-League first team.
