First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
After diving into the east portion of the 1A SCAC (South Central Athletic Conference) district, now we head to the West, where five high schools will play each other, and some of their players with the greatest upside are:
Maddie Wallace – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Zillah
Maddie Wallace was an instrumental piece in Zillah’s 11-1 campaign last season. The energetic 5’10”middle-blocker certainly made her presence felt at the net and never shied away from her role as a scoring threat for Zillah, consistently scoring in double digits. Her strong approach and quick arm make it very difficult for opponents to block her at the net.
Courtney Standley – Setter / Right Setter – Senior – La Salle
Capable of playing as either a setter or a right sider, Courtney Standley really excels when she has the ball in her hands and can orchestrate La Salle’s offense. That was the case in 2019, when he led the Lightning to an impressive 11-1 district record, earning an All-State team honorable mention and being an All-League first-team member. The 5’7” Standley is also very effective on defense, where her great reading of the game and superb ball control combine to great results.
Brynn Widner – Middle-Blocker – Junior – Zillah
Brynn Widner formed possibly the strongest middle-blocker duo of the district in 2019 with Wallace at Zillah. The 5’8” prospect used her speed and great reading of the game to become a solid contributor for the Leopards in several aspects of the game, being an integral piece of the team’s offense but also helping on serving and defense.
