First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
District 1B Coastal will have a new look next season, with three of its seven high schools joining from the 2B class, and some of their players with the greatest upside are:
Morgan Houghtelling – Setter – Senior – Mossyrock
As the team’s setter, Morgan Houghtelling was a huge part of Mossyrock’s successful 2019 campaign that resulted in a State Championship third-place finish as the class 2B. The 5’7” player posted some impressive numbers while coordinating the Vikings’ offense with 478 assists, but also helped the team from the service line with 42 aces and on defense with 153 digs. Her hard work was rewarded with a nomination for the All-League second team on the 2B Central district.
Lauryn McGough – Outside Hitter – Sophomore – Willapa Valley
Lauryn McGough emerged as a force for Willapa Valley in 2019 when she was in her freshman campaign with the team. Able to play as an outside hitter, her preferred position, or middle-blocker, the 6’1” prospect offered some important versatility to the Vikings’ offense and helped the team dominating the 2B Pacific District with nine wins with her great blocking ability.
Sadie Howard – Defensive Specialist/Libero – Senior – Pe Ell
Sadie Howard has done a great job as Pe Ell’s defensive stud in each of the last three seasons and she’ll be back for more on her last year of high school volleyball. The 5’4” prospect stands out for going beyond her expected attributions with the Trojans as besides an efficient defender and reliable passer she’s also a competent server for the team.
