First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
District 1B Columbia River went down one high school from five to four, but will remain as competitive as ever, and some of their players with the greatest upside are:
Lily Richards – Setter – Freshman – Three Rivers Christian
Lily Richards is arguably the player with the most upside in the district considering what she was able to do for Three River Christian last season as an eight-grader. The 5’3” prospect didn’t shy away from playing against older opponents and did a great job as a setter for the Lady Eagles, dishing out a whopping 520 assists while also registering 46 kills, 75 aces and 175 digs. Her strong first impression made of her an All-League first-team selection.
Elsa Helmes – Middle-Blocker/Defensive Specialist – Sophomore – Firm Foundation
Elsa Helmes was a key piece for a Firm Foundation team that made a deep run at last year’s State Championship, finishing seventh in the division. The 5’5” middle-blocker was not as efficient at the net with only 15 blocks, but definitely made up for that with impressive showings in every other area of the game. She had 123 kills, 51 aces and was as solid as it gets for a middle-blocker on her backcourt duties with 231 passes and a team-high 250 digs. Helmes was an All-League first-teamer last season.
Chantelle Isaacson – Outside Hitter – Junior – Three Rivers Christian
Chantelle Isaacson showed great promise on her sophomore campaign with Three Rivers Christian, helping the team to compete at the State Championship. An All-League first-team selection, the 5’7” outside hitter excelled with a solid all-around game, which saw her lead the team in blocks (66) and rank second in kills (202), aces (96) and digs (178).
