Schools are presently aligned in six (6) classifications with districts across the state of Texas. These schools have quite a few athletes that are listed on our State Rankings list. TAPPS just completed is State Tournament also. Here is a recap of what transpired in the 5A Division.
Victoria St. Joseph versus Carrollton Prince of Peace for the State Championship. This matchup was between the last two teams to hoist the trophy. Both are previous State Champs so this matchup was huge. Prince of Peace came in to the championship match with an overall record of 17-11 and a district record of 9-2. They beat Fort Worth Christian in five grueling sets (20-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 15-10) in the Semi-finals to reach the championship match. St. Joes had an impressive season with an overall record of 17-5. St. Joseph defeated Austin Hyde Park to reach the finals. Now the two best teams in the state would have to square off in order to call themselves Texas TAPPS State Champs.
The Carrollton Prince of Peace volleyball team is led by super sophomore Autumn Perry and senior Hannah Perry. Autumn had 15 kills on the night and Hannah had 4 kills. The setting is handled by a 6-2 rotation of senior Carlee Miller and highly touted freshman Keegan Schmidt. They are the defending TAPPS State Champs and they definitely were not going to go down without a fight to try for the back to back titles.
