The Future is Here - Dallas Up Next Top Performers Vol 7

Prep Dig Texas Showcases are back! We had a big event that was held at the Courtside Sports Center on August 8th. The Dallas Up Next showcase for the middle school classes was amazing! These events always bring together athletes from across the state looking to compete in front of coaches while being evaluated by Prep Dig scouts and court coaches. There were tons of awesome players that we evaluated from their awesome production. Showcases like this continue to provide a valuable platform for athletes to be seen, tested, and recognized for their individual performance and intangibles. Let's take a closer look at three players who earned Top Performer honors at the Dallas Up Next showcase.    Watch a libero for three or four rallies and you can tell whether she is reacting or reading. [player_tooltip player_id='1010684' first='Imose' last='Oni'] is definitely reading. She was already moving in the right direction before hitters in the scrimmage had finished their approach and the first step she committed to was almost always the correct one. Her passing was clean and gave her setter usable options rather than just keeping the ball airborne. She organized the back row with a vocal confidence that felt natural rather than forced and her competitive presence lifted the energy of the players around her throughout both sessions. The class of 2032 is a long way from being fully evaluated. She is already one of the names worth tracking in it. Autumn ran her offense at the Up Next Dallas Showcase with a poise that made the fact that she is only in seventh grade easy to forget. Her tempo calls showed genuine variety. She went quick when the block was slow and held the ball when she needed to keep the defense guessing and those are concepts that take some setters years to internalize. Her footwork was efficient and she squared up before release consistently. The composure she showed when passes were not where she wanted them was the quality that stood out most to court coaches who spent the day watching the setter position. She is a player to follow for a very long time. Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award for this showcase.     Standing 5'6" at the libero position gives [player_tooltip player_id='993060' first='Sophie' last='Becker'] a structural advantage in the back row that she used intelligently throughout the Up Next Dallas Showcase. Her range covered angles that shorter defenders were conceding and she handled high-velocity attacks with a platform that stayed clean rather than breaking down under the pace. She also has the hands capable of digging higher attacked balls to extend her range. The read she showed throughout the scrimmage segments was advanced for her class year and she was consistently in good position before the hitter made contact rather than scrambling after the fact. She talked constantly and kept the players around her organized and connected in a lineup built from scratch. The discipline and purpose she plays with at this age is the kind of foundation that tends to produce very good players down the road.
