First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
The 2A Olympic District features seven high schools and some of their players with the greatest upside are:
Sophia Baugh – Setter – Sophomore – North Kitsap
Sophia Baugh left a strong impression in her first season of high school volleyball. The 5’7” prospect took the reins of North Kitsap as the team’s starting setter and probably surpassed any expectations, leading the Vikings to a State Championship appearance. The young Baugh, who also plays basketball for North Kitsap, didn’t shy away from the responsibility of leading the team and was rewarded with an All-League first-team nomination in her freshman year.
Lily Halberg – Libero/Outside Hitter – Sophomore – Port Angeles
Lily Halberg was another player in the district to have shown what she’s about in her first season of high school volleyball. Playing for an inconsistent Port Angeles team, the 5’6” libero took care of the team’s defensive duties masterfully, leading the Roughriders’ efforts in both digs (116) and passes (174). Halberg also ranked first in the team in aces with 17 and was included in the All-League team as a second-team selection.
Brooklyn Irvine – Setter – Junior – Bremerton
Brooklyn Irvine became Bremerton’s starting setter in her first season of high school, in 2018, and followed it up with an even stronger display last year. The 5’3” prospect did a great job in coordinating the Knights’ offense, handing out 124 assists over the season, but also stepped up to help the team in more ways, leading the Knights in aces with 24 and adding 21 digs.
