First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
The 2A South Pudget Sound District features as many as nine high schools and some of their players with the greatest upside are:
Sirena Peredo – Outside Hitter – Sophomore – Washington
Sirena Peredo left a strong first impression with Washington in her freshman year being the top scorer of a team with as many as two senior hitters who ended up as All-State first-team selections. Peredo’s 114 kills also took her to All-State team as a second-team member, but they don’t tell the entire story on what the 5’6” outside hitter is capable of doing on a court as she also led the Patriots in aces (41), digs (138) and passes (82).
Charity Hines – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Steilacoom
An old sport saying states that you can’t teach size and that’s a massive advantage of Steilacoom’s Charity Hines. Standing at 6’4”, she one of the tallest players in the entire state and, most importantly, she makes good use of her height, especially when combined with her quick feet, an outcome of her work as a basketball player too. Her 102 blocks in 2019 are the second-best mark in the school ever and if she manages to improve her offensive game she’ll be a really interesting prospect.
Tori Schmidtke – Outside Hitter – Senior – White River
Tori Schmidtke has been White River’s main offensive option in the last two seasons. The 5’9” outside hitter can be dangerous by combining her good size with her athleticism, built on a track and field career that saw her break a school record in 2018. Schmidtke, an All-League first-team selection last year, consistently scores in double digits for the Hornets and also helps in other areas of the game.
