First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
As we start exploring the 2B class, we have the Bi-County district, which has ten high schools and their three best players are:
Madi Zorn – Setter – Junior – Northwest Christian
Madi Zorn has been a key point in Northwest Christian’s recent success as the setter led her team in a strong way in each of the last two seasons, when she was included in the All-State first team. The 5’8” setter has a lot of strengths in her game and has used each of them to help the Crusaders dominate the division. Last season, when she registered 680 assists, 107 aces, 140 digs, 80 kills and 13 blocks, was a statement of her greatness. She’s also got a very-high volleyball IQ, which helped her coordinating a strong and diverse offense in 2019, with each of her team’s three main hitters registering at least 200 kills during the season.
Kierstyn York – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Colfax
A powerful offense is what sets Kierstyn York apart from every other middle-blocker in the district. The six-footer knows perfectly how to use her size at the net and combines it with a great leaping ability and a heavy arm to be nearly unstoppable for Colfax. Last season was a good example of that as she ended the season with 302 kills and was at her best during the State Championship, registering 19 and 20 kills in consecutive matches for the Bulldogs. York is also a capable blocker, having tallied 44 points in that department during the State Championship, earning an All-State second-team nomination.
Chiara Carey – Outside Hitter/Right Sider – Senior – Northwest Christian
Versatility and reliability are great words to define Chiara Carey’s game. The 5’7” prospect can perform at both the outside hitter and right sider positions as she did last year for Northwest Christian. Carey received an All-State team honorable mention for a second-straight year in 2019 after she registered 249 kills, 64 aces, 13 blocks, 279 digs and 293 passes for the Crusaders, stats that were crucial to the team’s great campaign.
