First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
The 2B Eastern Washington Athletic Conference (EWAC) East portion is made of six high schools and their three best players are:
Sahara Browing – Outside Hitter – Junior – Walla Walla Valley Academy
Sahara Browing is hands down the best player in the entire district. The 5’8” outside hitter has been in great form since she joined Walla Walla Valley Academy and was probably at her best in 2019, when she guided the Knights to an 8-0 district campaign and an appearance at the State Championship. Browing, who received an All-State team honorable mention and was part of the All-League first team last year, capped last season off with 348 kills (to an extraordinaire exceptional kill percentage of 54.5 percent), 232 digs and 94 aces.
Mariah Valencia – Setter – Senior – Tri-Cities Prep
Tri-Cities Prep have reached the State Championship semifinals in each of the last two seasons and one constant in the team in both years was the reliable and smart guidance of Mariah Valencia. Not only a great setter, the 5’3” prospect, who’s also a capable basketball player, has also shown the leadership skills one would expect from an elite player in her position and that combination of mental toughness and technique for the Lady Jaguars earned her a spot in the All-State second team.
Jessica Mitchell – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Walla Walla Valley Academy
Jessica Mitchell delivers a lot more than many would expect from a middle-blocker and Walla Walla Valley Academy has been fortunate to have her on their squad. The 5’9” Mitchell can take care of her duties at the net as she showed in 2019, when she was the Knights’ second-best scorer (92 kills) and third most effective blocker (19 points), but she also does invaluable work at the backcourt, leading her team in both digs (267) and passes (70), besides registering 45 aces. Such a solid all-around has made of her an All-State team honorable mention nominee and an All-League first-team member.
