First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
The West portion of the 2B Eastern Washington Athletic Conference (EWAC) district features seven high schools and their three best players are:
Rachel Gallagher – Setter – Junior – Goldendale
Goldendale is one of the new teams in the district, coming from the 1A class, and its addition also brought the brilliance of Rachel Gallagher to the mix. The 5’10” setter has been an important part of the Timberwolves’ core in each of the last two seasons and is coming fresh from a prolific 2019 campaign, in which her solid setting and defensive skills helped the team finishing eighth at the State Championship. Gallagher was rewarded with an All-State team honorable mention.
Courtney Coates – Middle-Blocker – Junior – Kittitas/Thorp
Kittitas/Thorp was the only team in the district to appear at last year’s 2B State Championship, finishing eighth, and Courtney Coates played an important role in the team’s campaign. Then a sophomore, the middle-blocker performed beyond her 5’5” frame, showing a strong game at the net, which made of her the team’s best blocker with 18 points and its third-best hitter with 96 kills.
Kylee Cuffe – Outside Hitter/Right Sider – Senior – Cle Elum-Roslyn
Kylee Cuffe was one of the most important pieces in Cle Elum-Roslyn’s playing system in 2019 as the 5’9” prospect, who can play as both an outside hitter or a right sider, helped the team in several different aspects. Cuffe was the Warriors’ second-best scorer with 43 kills, but also contributed with 13 aces and 20 digs.
