First, we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
Our final stop at the 2B class is the Pacific District, which has eight high schools, and some of their players with the greatest upside are:
Hailey Jones – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Ocosta
As with any high school volleyball player, Hailey Jones still has a lot to improve in several areas of her game, but blocking isn’t one of them. The 5’10” middle-blocker was stellar at the net for Ocosta in 2019, ending the season with 67 blocks, to an average of 1.2 per set. She was also a very effective hitter, with the Wildcats’ fourth-best mark in kills (70) and should probably focus on her serving and digging skills to give the next step forward. Jones received an All-League team honorable mention last season for her performance.
Grace Busenius – Middle-Blocker/Opposite – Junior – Raymond
A multisport student-athlete who also dedicates her time to basketball and softball, Grace Busenius has made a big impact in Raymond’s program last season. The main asset the 5’7” prospect brought to the Seagulls was arguably her versatility, which allows to play as either a middle-blocker or an opposite and still maintain and very high level, which made of her an All-League second-team member last season.
Sabrina Lessenden – Libero – Junior – Ilwaco
Ilwaco’s game was inconsistent for the most part last season, but one área where the Lady Fishermen was as solid as it gets was defense. The team did good work on the backcourt and most of the credits here should go to libero Sabrina Lessenden, who excelled in coordinating those efforts. A player who rarely misses a dig due to her outstanding technique, the 5’2” Lessenden led her team in both digs (27) and passes (152) and still added ten aces, stats that paved her way to becoming an All-League second-team selection.
