First, we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
Our final stop at the 2B class is the Pacific District, which has eight high schools, and their three best players are:
Lillyan Barnun – Opposite/Outside Hitter – Senior – Ocosta
Lillyan Barnum had an outstanding 2019 season with Ocosta and helped the team winning ten of its 11 district matches. The 5’10” prospect is very versatile on offense, being a strong hitter from the right and left sides and even able to score from the middle if needed. She also has a strong all-around game which took her to be an All-League first-team member with the Wildcats after she registered 96 kills, 50 aces, 142 digs and 170 passes.
Sidney Swogger – Setter/Outside Hitter – Junior – Raymond
Very few players have the skill set required to play at a high level as either a setter or an outside hitter and Sidney Swogger is one of them. Standing at 5’7”, she has good size for either position and her above-average technique and volleyball IQ allow her to find ways to perform in vastly different roles. On either position, one of Swogger’s main weapons is her powerful serve, capable of generating aces in bunches. She was an All-League first-team selection in 2019.
Abby Knopski – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Ilwaco
Abby Knopski has had steady growth with Ilwaco over the last two seasons. From receiving limited playing time in 2018 to become a key piece for the Lady Fishermen last season, the 5’9” middle-blocker has shown encouraging progress on a volleyball court. Last season was certainly a big step forward on Knopski’s career as she registered 28 kills and 20 blocks on her way to becoming an All-League second-team selection.
