First, we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
The 3A Metro district is one of the largest in the entire state with as many as 17 high schools and their three best players are:
Eva Atkins – Middle-Blocker – Junior – Roosevelt
Eva Atkins has shown in 2019 she’s one of the best middle-blockers in the entire division as she helped Roosevelt finishing fourth at last year’s State Championship and winning all of their ten district matches. The prospect was a stud for the Roughriders at the net putting her 6’3” to great use as she had an outstanding production with 210 kills and a team-high 97 blocks. Her great season didn’t go unnoticed as Atkins received an All-State team honorable mention and was included in the All-League first team.
Claire Donovan – Libero/Defensive Specialist – Senior – Eastside Catholic
Anyone watching Eastside Catholic last season could easily notice the impact Claire Donovan had on their success. The libero was a force at the backcourt for the Crusaders and was one of the reasons why the team appeared at the State Championship. The 5’6” Donovan was spectacular on her main duties leading Eastside Catholic in both digs (348) and passes (393) and cementing her name as an All-State team honorable mention nominee and an All-League first-team selection.
McKenna Dorscht – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Seattle Prep
McKenna Dorscht was instrumental to Seattle Prep’s success in 2019 as her contributions were essential for the team to finish eighth at the State Championship. The six-foot middle-blocker was dominant at the net and nearly unstoppable on offense while offering a strong blocking presence for the Panthers. Dorscht received an All-State team honorable mention for that and was also selected for the All-League first team.
