Continue ReadingWe are proud of our second update to the 2023 Class. We have grown to almost 100 athletes and the following players have made some serious moves on the list. It is through their play during this past season that has helped us decide who should be where on the rankings. We always say that it is not an exact science, however proving it on the court in their position always helps solidify the analysis. We will be profiling players who were previously ranked in the state, but through great play, they made some serious moves up the rankings. Without further ado, here are a few players who moved up:
Kyndal Stowers Kyndal Stowers 6'0" | OH Guyver | 2023 State #8 Nation TX [2023] 5-11 Middle (HS: Guyer/Club: Texas Advantage Volleyball Club/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Please help us congratulate Miss Stowers on moving up to the 5th spot on our rankings. Kyndal was originally ranked as the 8th overall prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. We wrote about her Guyer high school program as the season began in September and here is a little from the story, “This young lady is the real deal. She plays out of the left and right side pins last season as a freshman on varsity for the Guyer program, but they may use her primarily on the left this year with the departure of Maggie Walsh Maggie Walsh 5'10" | OH San Marcos | 2022 State TX . Kyndal has all of the tools to be a fantastic outside hitter for the next three years. She will no doubt be a division 1 prospect. She plays for the famed TAV club program that routinely pumps out Div one prospects. This kid has the type of bounce that can’t be taught. She has length in her extremities which allow her to reach over blockers and hit with authority. What I love the most about her is her quickness off of the ground and her ability to move the ball around and score so easily. In my professional opinion, she is one of the best hitters in the state of Texas in the 2023 class and will grow to be even better with more experience under her belt. If you don’t know her name, write it down and get some popcorn because you are in for a treat watching her attack the ball.” Kyndall has blossomed into one of the premier outside hitters in the state. She stepped up for the Guyer program this season and handled a lot of the offensive load for them as a sophomore. She filled up the stat book with 288 kills, 30 blocks, and 277 digs. We will be hearing about this young lady for the foreseeable future in the sport of volleyball. The scary part is that she will only get better. We are excited to cover her and cannot wait to see what she does next.
Mikala Sampson Mikala Sampson 6'1" | MB Klein | 2023 State #109 Nation TX [2023] 6-0 Middle (HS: Klein/Club: Willowbrook/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Mikala was originally ranked as the 11th top prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but through her play this season at Klein Hs, she has now moved up two spots to the 9th overall position. We wrote multiple articles on her school this season and here is a little about Miss Sampson, “The newcomer to the program this past season was Freshman Mikala Sampson Mikala Sampson 6'1" | MB Klein | 2023 State #109 Nation TX . She earned 1st Team All-District also with her play. Prep Dig has her ranked as the 11thbest prospect in the 2023 class. She is a very explosive blocker and attacker with an outstanding ability to read on the block according to her coach. When I watch her play I see rapid footwork that will have her hitting at a high clip with quick sets for the rest of her career. She is very quick to the ball and extremely quick off of the ground. Once you add her lightning quick arm swing, you have a recipe for fireworks. She is young and talented. Her club director at Willowbrook Gabi Carbone and her high school coach Zora will definitely have her college ready in a few years. Keep your eye out for this one folks.” Mikayla broke out this season and played like an upper classman with a roster that is filled with future division one college players. This young lady had 100 kills, 53 blocks, and hit .268 out of the middle. There are some seniors graduating but Klein is in good hands moving forward with Miss Sampson patrolling the net. Please help us congratulate her moving up the rankings.
Stephanie Gutierrez Stephanie Gutierrez 6'1" | OH Boswell | 2023 State #157 Nation TX [2023] 6-1 Middle (HS: Boswell/Club: / Verbal: Uncommitted)
Stephanie has moved up from being the 17th ranked prospect to becoming the 13th top player in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. We had wrote about Stephanie in our “Everything is Bigger in Texas” series and here is a little from it, “She is a very polished middle blocker for her age that plays out of the North Texas area. She plays very big above the net and is a great defender and an even better attacker. We have her ranked pretty high on our rankings and believe she is the real deal. She hits every set on the middle spectrum and is able to score in a variety of ways with each. I love how strong her upper body is at such a young age. She has such a high ceiling within the position, which means she is going to get a lot better over the years. She reaches high when attacking and gives her setters a great target. Stephanie plays for a great club in Texas Advantage, which routinely pumps out collegiate prospects year in and year out. I love how ready she is to attack on quick sets, but she excels in her slide the most. If she is this comfortable running the one foot take-off at an early age, the volleyball world better watch out because Stephanie is coming for ya. We are excited that we get to watch her grow in the sport for the next three years.” Miss Gutierrez really stepped up and became a force for her Boswell high school program this season. She had 126 kills and 54 total blocks while hitting an astounding .283 as a sophomore. She was named District 3-6A Co-Blocker of the year. We are happy for her progress and are excited that we get to cover her for the next few years. Please congratulate her on moving up the rankings.
