However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
Our picks in the 1A Northeast district are:
Class of 2021
Jordyn Goldsmith – Opposite – Freeman
Jordyn Goldsmith has all the tools to be an elite opposite at the collegiate level and beyond. At 6’2”, she’s long enough to be a factor for Freeman at the net, which she is both on offense and while blocking. Her quick and heavy arm is also a nightmare for defenders because she can send the ball anywhere and, wherever it’s going, it’s going hard. Her last season with the Scotties will provide her with an opportunity to leave the high school game on an even higher note, which she’s in position to do after ending 2019 in the All-League first team and with an honorable mention to the All-State team.
Class of 2022
Ashley Boswell – Outside Hitter – Freeman
Ashley Boswell has successfully transitioned from her original middle-blocker role to the outside hitter position and her performance for Freeman in the 2019 season, when she received an All-State team honorable mention and was an All-League first-team selection for the Scotties, left no doubt about it. Her 6’1” frame makes of her a great fit to play as a pin hitter and her strong backcourt game provides her with all the skills she needs to be one of the best in the division.
Class of 2023
Kendall Hinchliff – Libero – Newport
Freshmen who manage to show their value even when playing for underperforming teams deserve a lot of credit, so let’s talk about Kendall Hinchliff. In 2019, the 5’6” libero was part of a Newport team that won only two out of 12 district matches and even appearing in just 20 of the 42 sets the Grizzlies played in the district, she posted good numbers in defense and serve-receiving, with 32 digs and 81 passes.
