However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
The Northwest District features high schools from both the 1B and 2B classes but is strongly dominated by State champions LaConner and the players we selected are:
Class of 2021
Katie Watkins – Middle-Blocker – LaConner
Katie Watkins’s versatility and efficiency were valuable assets to LaConner’s State Championship-winning teams in each of the last two seasons. If the 5’9” prospect spent most of 2018 playing as an outside hitter for the Braves, she moved to a middle-blocker role last year and delivered as strongly as ever, ending the season with 53 kills, 19 blocks and 84 digs, earning an All-League team honorable mention for that. Watkins is a strong hitter and can convert points from anywhere in the court.
Class of 2022
Rachel Cram – Libero – LaConner
If offense win games and defense win championships, LaConner should be really thankful for having Rachel Cram on their roster in the last two seasons. The 5’5” libero is a stud for the Braves by leading the team’s defensive efforts and providing strong reassurance in their backcourt. It was no different in 2019, when Cram used her outstanding defensive technique and apparently unswerving focus to pile up 393 digs (4.6 per set) and 279 passes and find her way into the All-State second team.
Class of 2023
Ellie Marble – Outside Hitter – LaConner
Ellie Marble is undoubtedly a star in the making. The six-foot outside hitter had a spectacular freshman season with LaConner taking the team to a State Championship title and securing the class’s Co-Player of the Year award. Marble is a scoring machine and hits the ball harder than anyone her age, especially from the back row, which explains her whooping 397 kills registered in 2019. But that’s by no means all she delivered to the Braves as she also produced 410 digs, 242 passes, 58 aces and 21 blocks for the team.
