However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
Today we look at the 1B Northeast District and there are the players we picked:
Class of 2021
Bree Dawson – Outside Hitter – Selkirk
Bree Dawson delivered what was expected from her and more in 2019, when she led Selkirk to a solid 14-2 campaign in the district. The athletic 5’9” outside hitter was a force to reckon at the net with frequent 20-kill performances and also proved her importance from the service line, consistently scoring aces and disrupting the Rangers’ opponents’ receiving system. Her hard also was noticed and pushed her up to the All-State second team and to the All-League first team.
Class of 2022
Mimi Isaak – Setter/Right Setter – Almira-Coulee-Hartline
There’s virtually nothing Mimi Isaak can’t do at a good level on a volleyball court. The 5’8” Almira-Coulee-Hartline versatile prospect embraced the role of doubling up as the team’s setter and right sider in 2019 and responded well to the challenge, helping the Warriors in a variety of ways during their dominant district campaign and their third-place finish at the State Championship. Isaak ended the season with 316 assists, 70 kills, 43 aces, 34 blocks and 79 digs besides a spot in the All-League first team.
Class of 2023
Belle Stark – Right Sider – Northport
Belle Stark’s game is still a work in progress, but it’s hard to deny that she has all the tools and the skills to be an elite player in the future. Her six-foot frame and athleticism, which allow her to play basketball and softball for Northport too, are the cornerstones of her game, but she showed tons of potential in 2019, especially from the service line, as she registered 76 aces last season, including 11 at the same match. Her defense was also good with 82 digs and expect her 46 kills and seven blocks to increase significantly as she improves as a player.
