However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
The east portion of the Southeast District is one of the most competitive in the 1B class and here are the players we picked:
Class of 2021
LouEllen Reed – Setter – Oaksdale
LouEllen Reed has led Oaksdale to back-to-back State Championship titles in 2017 and 2018 and to three-straight appearances in the finals as the Nighthawks finished second last season. The 5’7” setter is not only a winner, but also a great leader and outstanding on what she does, frequently dishing out north of 50 assists per match with a typically diversified distribution. Her strong play and her key role for her team have resulted in three consecutive All-State first-team nominations in the last years.
Class of 2022
Ashlynn Archer – Middle-Blocker – St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse
It doesn’t take a lot of time for anyone to realize how high Ashlynn Archer’s potential is. The St. John-Endicott/La Cross has not only the size but also the skills to be a fantastic middle-blocker. The 6’3” Archer is extremely quickly and active at the net, being the Eagles’ primary scoring option, but is also skilled enough to help the team in other areas of the game too. Last season, in which she was the team’s best hitter (256 kills), blocker (58 points) and server (36 aces) and the second-best in digs (179) and passes (284) was a great sample of her impressive all-around play and took her to the All-State team as an honorable mention and to the All-League first team.
Class of 2023
Gianna Anderson – Outside Hitter – Oaksdale
Gianna Anderson has the perfect skillset for an outside hitter being equally efficient at the net and on the backcourt. Oaksdale benefited immensely for her game last season, when the Nighthawks finished second at the State Championship. The 5’7” outside hitter was a scoring machine, registering more than 15 kills and the same amount of digs night in, night out and she was at her absolute best in the biggest moment of the season as she registered 24 kills and 32 digs in the final against Pomeroy. That performance certainly cemented her spot at both the All-State and All-League first teams.
