However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
The 2A Puget Sound District is composed by nine high schools and here are our selections:
Class of 2021
Noelani Souza – Setter – Washington
Setters are the heart of their teams and Noelani Souza has been playing that role to perfection in her three years of high school volleyball with Washington. The 5’3” prospect has phenomenal ball control, which helps to explain her impressive 291 assists in 40 sets (7.3 per set) last season. Souza, who’s the granddaughter of the Patriots’ longtime head coach Paul, also filled several other areas of her stat sheet with 35 kills, 35 aces and 67 digs. She was an All-State first-team member for a second-straight season.
Class of 2022
Danielle Faamausili – Setter – Steilacoom
Danielle Faamausili is another fantastic do-it-all kind of setter in the district. The left-handed Steilacoom offensive coordinator is exceptional with the ball on her hands as her jaw-dropping 884 assists (9.3 per set) but her 5’9” frame takes her game to a different level as she’s also able to impact the game at the net with ease as she did in 2019, when she registered 81 kills and 49 blocks. Her backcourt is not less impressive with her 302 digs and 50 aces for the Sentinels taking her to feature in the All-State team as an honorable mention.
Class of 2023
Sirena Peredo – Outside Hitter – Washington
Not many players have the skills and the personality to start their high school volleyball careers by immediately becoming a key member of such a dominant team like Washington, but that’s Sirena Peredo’s (brief) path so far. The 5’6” outside hitter didn’t hold anything back in her freshman year with the Patriots and was the team’s go-to scorer, ending the 2019 season with 114 kills. Her game is by no means one-dimensional, though, as Peredo, who ended up selected to the All-State second team, also led her team in aces (41), digs (138) and passes (82) last season.
