However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
The King County (KingCo) District features seven high schools from the 3A class and these are our selections:
Class of 2021
Mia Vong – Setter – Bellevue
Mia Vong showed everything one would expect from an elite setter during Bellevue’s last campaign in 2019. The 5’7” prospect had the firm and reliable hands to distribute 207 assists over the course of the season but also brought a lot more to the Wolverines in the form of 78 kills, 43 aces and 108 digs. Perhaps most importantly, she was a vocal leader for the team. That combination made of her an All-League first-team selection.
Class of 2022
Elise Hani – Middle-Blocker/Right Sider – Lake Washington
A well-known sport saying states that you can’t teach size and that’s something Elise Hani certainly doesn’t need to learn. Her game might still be a work in progress in some areas, but Hani should last year for Lake Washington she has just enough to make a huge impact at the game, most notably at the net, where she secured 114 kills and 37 blocks for the Kangaroos. Hani was part of the All-League first team last season in a clear sign that she still has loads of potential to be untapped.
Class of 2023
Leila Obeidat – Middle-Blocker/Outside Hitter – Mercer Island
Mercer Island might have won only seven of their 12 district matches last season, but they certainly found that they have a player to build their team around for the next three years in Leila Obeidat. The six-foot middle-blocker is still in the early stages of her development but immediately became a force at the net for the Islanders, leading the team in blocks with 29 and ranking third on offense with 88 kills. And she has a lot of upsides.
