Continue ReadingWhat has been a shortened club volleyball season is coming to an end in Seattle but the best was arguably saved for the last with the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship set to take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 26-July 5.
The event is expected to attract more than 700 teams in the 15 divisions for clubs from 15s to 17s and the state of Washington will be among the participants with at least 11 teams entered to appear in the event.
Between now the stating serve on June 26, we’ll take a look in each of those teams, recapping their club season and pointing out the players you would want to follow in the tournament.
PSVBA 15 Pat
One of three teams of the Puget Sound Volleyball Academy out of Tacoma to qualify for the tournament, PSVBA 15 Pat will compete in the 15 Patriot division. The squad led by head coach Pat Taitano has accumulated 13 wins and 18 losses so far in the season but came up big in both the PSR Qualifier and the Power League, finishing third.
Players to Watch
Ivy Brown – Outside Hitter – HS: Wilson – 2024
Ivy Brown is a talented outside hitter who adds to PSVBA 15 Pat in a variety of ways. At 5’9”, she’s able to get the job done offensively at the net and even from the back row but also plays a big role in the team’s defensive system. She can also play as a middle blocker. Her performance in her freshman high school season with Wilson, in which she registered 124 kills, 118 digs and 88 passes, gives the exact dimension of how useful she can be.
Grace Wesenberg – Outside Hitter – HS: Emerald Ridge – 2024
Grace Wesenberg is another member of this PSVBA 15 Pat team that excelled in their first season of high school volleyball. The 5’11” outside hitter showed a great calling card in the shortened season with 111 kills, eight blocks and 62 digs to immediately become one of the team’s key players.
Anna Saldana – Setter/Right Sider – HS: Stadium – 2024
Anna Saldana is PSVBA 15 Pat’s setter and she does a great job in using her main hitters to score points. At 5’7”, she can also hit herself when at the net and she uses her technique and volleyball IQ to put the ball on the floor. Saldana registered 66 assists, to an average of 2.5 per set, in her first season of high school volleyball with Stadium.
