The Nighthawks ended the season undefeated with 21 victories in as many matches but had to sweat to pull out the most important of them, a five-set (17-25, 25-20, 25-21, 11-25, 15-11) triumph against the Mossyrock Vikings in the state final on Friday at the Yakima Valley SunDome.
Junior outside hitter Gianna Anderson was in top form, producing 24 kills, 44 digs and two aces in the final. The Knighthawks also relied a lot on senior middle blocker Bree Rawls and sophomores Payton Davis (outside hitter) and Samanthag Holling (setter) during their campaign.
Third-place match
Led by senior middle blocker Ashlynn Archer, junior setter Addisen Becker and sophomore libero Cami Larsen, St. John-Endicott/La Crossed ranked third after their 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-13) win over the Odessa Tigers.
Fifth-place match
The Naselle Comets ranked fifth with their tie-breaker (25-20, 21-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-11) victory over the Mary Walker Chargers. Senior outside hitter Oceana Aguirre and junior libero Brynn Tarabochia were key contributors for Naselle’s success.
Seventh-place match
The 2019 champions Pomeroy Pirates finished seventh after they defeated the Shoreline Christian Chargers 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 26-24).
