The club volleyball season is underway in Texas and during the next several months the Lone Star State will be packed with exciting tournaments, where the region’s most interesting prospects will have opportunities to showcase their games.

The Spike Sport #1 was one of the first of those to take place. Played on December 4 in Missouri City, the event featured eight teams from the Houston area in the 17 Division and ten in the 18. The event was dominated by the traditional Houston Skyline club, which advanced two teams for the final of the gold bracket in both divisions.

PrepDig.com attended the tournament and we’ll use the next few days to highlight some of the most interesting players we spotted there – some are very popular and well-known names, while others are prospects who perhaps were flying under-the-radar.

We’ll start with the middle blockers from the 18 Division.

[player_tooltip player_id="87476" first="Kierstyn" last="McFall"] – Skyline 18 Royal – HS: Klein – 2022

Fresh from a high school season in which she was awarded as the MVP of District 15-6A with Klein, [player_tooltip player_id="87476" first="Kierstyn" last="McFall"] displayed her typical dominance at the net once again with her Skyline 18 Royal team that won the division. Very long and athletic, she had no issues in controlling the net on both sides of the game. The 6’4” McFall also showed some interesting versatility, spending time on the right and proving to be just as lethal offensively there as well. Ranked 11th on our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings, she will join North Florida at the end of the club season.

[player_tooltip player_id="99507" first="Jordan" last="Gamble"] – Skyline 18 Black – HS: Katy - 2022

One of top middle blockers in the entire state of Texas in her class, [player_tooltip player_id="99507" first="Jordan" last="Gamble"] was one of the cornerstones of a Skyline 18 Black team that was just a set away from the championship match. A key piece in a Katy team that advanced all the way to the regional finals in the high school season, the 6’2” middle blocker was just as important for 18 Black with her solid and consistent game at the net. A Northwestern State commit, she was one the team’s most impactful offensive players and also did a great defensive job with her big block. Gamble ranks 37th in our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings.

Don’yah Cosie – Texas Legacy 18 Elite – HS: The Woodlands College Park - 2022

Playing for Texas Legacy for the first time after coming from TAV Houston, Don’yah Cosie was able to make a massive impact with her new team, which went to win the silver bracket. The 6’2” middle blocker has every physical tool a player in the position would want as besides being tall she also jumps well and has extremely long arms, which allow her to make contact with the ball at a very high point on offense and to put up a big block at the net. Another key for her success as a blocker is her quickness to both move laterally on the net and react to overpasses or unexpected moves across the net. She can also play as a right sider.
