Continue ReadingSaturday in Pontiac was a great opportunity to get prospects from the state of Michigan a chance to shine during the Prep Dig Top 250 Expo for Michigan.
The Class of 2025 had an impressive group of players take part, with a couple dozen showing what the future of the state has to offer.
Here’s a look at Part 2 of these prospects. Click here for a look at Part 1.
Players listed in alphabetical order
Sophie Munch, L/DS Plainwell/USA Michigan: Munch had some really nice plays throughout the Expo, but could stand to be a little more sure of herself. When things didn’t go right, it wasn’t usually because of her technique, more because she was a little apprehensive.
Kate Nelson, S, Clarkston/L2: Nelson was flying all over the court to make plays, which she did quite consistently. She adapted well to each ball that she had to set and had great body language throughout the day.
Allison O’Rourke, L/DS Lake Orion/Legacy: O’Rourke was another promising young defender at the event. She was very consistent in her serve receive and moved her feet well. You could see her confidence grow throughout the day, which led to better play.
McKenna Payne McKenna Payne 5'7" | DS/L SMCC | 2025 State #105 Nation MI , L/DS SMCC/Michigan Elite: Payne was another standout from the 2025 prospects. She already has a lot of big-match experience with SMCC and it showed in her all-around play. Though she’s a standout defender, she also has hitting skills and is technically sound around the court.
Chelsea Pearce, L/DS Mattawan/USA Michigan: Pearce was apprehensive at times, but when she found her next gear, you could see the talent shine through. She’s got a lot of drive and fundamental skill to build on as she continues to develop her consistency.
Abbigale Perry, L/DS Brighton/Legends: What stood out about Perry is her communication and command while in the back row. She was a vocal player that took control and had a very “pitbull” quality to her. She’s tough and not afraid to take leadership while already having the game to back it up.
Tamerah Peterson, L/DS Parkway Christian/Volleyball Elite: I liked Peterson’s work ethic. Though she was undersized at 5’4”, she was willing to compete anywhere on the floor. That mindset helps her in the back row, but she was also willing to go toe-to-toe with hitters and constantly compete.
Mallory Reck Mallory Reck 5'10" | RS Northville | 2025 State MI , RS Northville/Legacy: Reck is part of a talented volleyball family and it shows. She has a variety of swing speeds and shot selection, but she also is an instinctive blocker that has her timing down.
Molly Reck Molly Reck 5'10" | OH Northville | 2025 State MI , OH Northville/Legacy: Similar to her sister, Molly has a lot of intangibles you want in a young hitter. Reck consistently was getting her swings at the peak of the set, making it very difficult to defender her. What she also showcased well on Saturday was her communication skills.
Reya Rojeski, OH Dakota/Michigan Elite: Rojeski is a natural athlete that brings a lot of different skills to the court. She can move and pass well, but has great form on her attacks. She just needs to develop a little more aggressiveness on the floor. She has the skills, now just needs to let everyone else know it.
Abby Wutka, MH Dakota/Michigan Elite: Wutka was another player that was able to make some plays look effortless. She started the showcase out as one of the point-winners in 2-touch/3-touch, showcasing her ability to react quickly and defend as well as hit. Wutka moves very smooth on the court and is definitely a breakout candidate in the years ahead.
