We’ll constantly use this space during the club season to highlight the top performers and this week we’ll feature some of the 16s teams in the Evergreen State that are up to a promising start of the season.
SIVA 16 North Blue
A 17th-place finish at the Puget Sound Region Power League and a 33rd in the Matt Hartner Memorial Classic might not look like signs of a good start to the season, but the team from the Skagit Island Volleyball Academy has been hard to beat. SIVA 16 North Blue has lost just twice in 12 matches and better finishes are certain to follow.

Players to Watch:
Kendyl Flynn – Outside Hitter – HS: Anacortes – 2024
A long and athletic outside hitter with amazing reach and tremendous firepower, Kendyl Flynn is a high-volume point-scorer. At 6’1”, she’s nearly unstoppable when in-system and her efficiency rate is still very high in transition, even when she’s not able to make a full approach because she can make contact with the ball at such a high point and swing it really hard. She was a top producer in the last high school season with Anacortes, registering 152 kills, 30 aces, ten blocks, 106 digs and 42 passes.
Ashley Shumate – Outside Hitter – HS: Lynden – 2024
Standing on SIVA 16 North Blue’s way at the pin is no easy task as besides Flynn however is assigned that mission has also to deal with Ashely Shumate. She’s even taller and longer at 6’3” and has quickly developed into an elite outside hitter in Northwest Washington, especially on offense. Shumate is also able to play as a middle blocker but has made it to the Washington Coaches Association All-State second team this past season as a pin hitter.
Olivia Swayne – Middle Blocker – HS: Squalicum – 2024
Olivia Swayne has a noticeable presence at the net for her teams. The 5’11” middle blocker is very dynamic and uses her long arms well on both sides of the ball. Offensively, she hits a higher set that allows her to take advantage of her reach. She’s efficient even when in transition as she’s able to put considerable power on her single-step approach. When blocking, she penetrates the net really well and takes up a lot of space from opposing hitters.
