We’ll constantly use this space during the club season to highlight the top performers and this week we’ll feature some of the 16s teams in the Evergreen State that are up to a promising start of the season.
SIVBC 16 Thunder
The team from the Sudden Impact Volleyball Club out of Tacoma has started the season in great rhythm, winning all of their three matches to finish at the top of the Puget Sound Region Power League and followed it up with a 26th-place finish at the Matt Hartner Memorial Classic in Oregon after they secured a 6-3 win record.
Players to Watch:
Logan Remington – Middle Blocker – HS: Mercer Island – 2024
Logan Remington is one of the players with the greatest potential in the state of Washington. Part of it might be just because she’s 6’2”, but anyone following Remington’s play close enough has certainly noticed how quickly she’s been improving in this last year. She’s tall, but extremely mobile and is steadily becoming better and more difficult to stop with her offensive game. Remington is also very focused on the net and is always hard to hammer an overpass back to the opponent’s court.
Vanessa Ping – Setter – HS: Newport – 2024
An intelligent and creative setter, Vanessa Ping does a great job in creating the conditions for SIVBC 16 Thunder’s hitter to thrive. She has a good connection with her middles but also likes to set to the pins and is excellent with her location. The 5’8” Ping is a dangerous server and also plays really well on defense. She averaged 6.5 assists per set (to a total of 209) as the second setter of her high school team Newport during the last season.
Darby Kelly – Outside Hitter – HS: Newport – 2024
A teammate of Ping in their high school team Newport, Darby Kelly carries the good chemistry with her setter to the club season. The 5’10” outside hitter is long and athletic and uses her physical tools well to score points at the net. She hits from the left, right and even from the backcourt. Kelly did a great job in the last high school season, proving her value to her team on both sides of the ball with 177 kills and 221 passes.
