The four-month tournament is typically the stage for some intriguing battles and is where players go beyond their limits to perform and chase victories.
This year’s edition of the Power League has started in early January and over the course of the month and each division has played at least one stop (or the seeding day). The 18s Division, which combines 17s and 18s teams from the Evergreen State is one of the most advanced with two rounds already completed.
This week, we’re highlighting some of the teams that had the best performances in the division so far and now it’s time we find out more about Apex NW U17 Summit, the team from the Apex NW Volleyball Club in Northwest Washington that lost just twice in six matches so far.
Key Players
Taylor Lentz – Middle Blocker – HS: Nooksack Valley – 2023
Taylor Lentz provides Apex NW U17 Summit a strong presence at the net, something extremely valuable for a team playing against older opponents. The six-footer is very active and always vigilant at the net, consistently turning overpasses or overdigs into easy points. She’s a solid blocker with long arms and good feet movement and has a very strong right arm, which she uses to face and beat opposing blockers.
Meredith Marsh – Setter – HS: Arlington – 2023
An intelligent and efficient setter, Meredith Marsh is the one calling the shots on Apex NW 17 Summit’s offense. The 5’7” setter is extremely technical and consistent and does a good job of communicating with her hitters. Marsh is also excellent on defense, which allows her to also be used as a defensive specialist. She’s also part of a solid high school team in Arlington.
Lainey Kimball – Middle Blocker – HS: Nooksack Valley – 2023
Apex NW U17 Summit has gotten not one, but two excellent middle blockers from the Nooksack Valley high school team as that’s also where Lainey Kimball plays. She’s also very long and uses her long arms well to control the net. Another heavy hitter, she has the ability to score from the right at well, offering some interesting flexibility to her coaches.
